Reconstruction 1.0
Project type
Reconstruction 1.0
Date
July 2023
Place
Caracalla off
Ricostruzione 1.0, a show born from the creative flair of the young talents of the 4th edition of "Fabbrica," the Young Artist Program at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, directed by Lorenzo Amato.
"Ricostruzione 1.0 was born from a group of young artists questioning what opera and the world of theater mean today," explains director Antonella Lo Bianco. "We explored the role of the artist/singer trapped in an abandoned theater, stuck in a time that stands still, a symbol for us of today's society. The difficulty of communicating and the sense of abandonment cause the crisis. Love for the place and for the profession pushes the artist toward awareness and the need for reconstruction, leading him to free the space and the body of what is no longer useful. This is the path taken by the protagonists of this dreamlike journey that is Ricostruzione 1.0."
Spectators of Reconstruction 1.0, at Caracalla on July 17 (9:00 PM), will find themselves facing a stage designed to represent the "Theater," a collapsed and abandoned theater where this dreamlike fantasy comes to life, featuring music by Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, and Puccini, presented in an emotionally structured, non-chronological and non-philological order. Giving voice to the famous arias and ensemble pieces will be singers Valentina Gargano (soprano), Mariam Suleiman (soprano), Ekaterine Buachidze (mezzo-soprano), Eduardo Niave (tenor), Nicola Straniero (tenor), Mattia Rossi (baritone), and Spartak Sharikadze (bass), accompanied on the piano by Zenoviia-Anna Danchak and Pavel Tialo.
The musical fantasy is divided into three sections: the first dedicated to love, the second to crisis, and the third to hope. At the beginning of this journey, everything is a trap. Mario Celentano's costumes are bulky and heavy, covered in clay, the same material used for the actors' elaborate makeup; the visual effect evokes the patina of time, lending the characters an almost sculptural rigidity. Chiara Mirabella's sets are also a trap, where the undisputed protagonist is the labyrinthine net created by the ropes. The lighting is by Giulia Bandera: initially fake and artificial, recalling the dawn of a now obsolete theater, it becomes essential at the moment of liberation. The stage design follows the artist/singer's journey; everything undergoes a transformation that leads to liberation.
